Speech acts & principles of communication facts: when we communicate we use speech acts. 2) speech act theory understands speech as an act. 3) speech acts can be expressed verbally or nonverbally. Examples of speech acts include: a promised utter. In trying to understand and interpret speech acts, it is helpful to keep in mind the three principles of communication. (any time talking not arguing) abide by them even if we don"t thinkmabout them when we speak. These principles also aid in diagramming and the evaluation of arguments.
