MODR 1760 Lecture 2: Session 2 Lecture - Principles of Argumentation
Document Summary
Blind obedience to authority: when you accept what somebody says without questioning it at all because in some way they look like they have credentials, doing something because you are told to do it. It is being passive in the face of adversity, taking the obedient route. Participants in the study have been lied to and the participants don"t find that out at the end. Definitions: very open minded: welcomes opportunities to think about things in different ways, even if the new way provides a less comfortable or convenient perspective. Principles of argumentation: basic rules of behaviour that an intellectually mature person would be expected to follow when constructing and assessing arguments for use in a rational discussion of disputed issues. Refer to session 2 reading for the principles of argumentation. You can"t say: since no one is able to prove that ghosts don"t exist then they must exist.
