South asian musical instruments used in bollywood music (lec. Jal tarang: manjira, ghungharu, chimpta, avanaddh instruments, tabla, mridangam, dholak, daf, dholki, dhol. Note: tabla and sarangi were seen as negative for quite a period of time in india because they were used with dance performers in the red light area. Example: in devdas when paro comes, there is a different instruments played, where as when chandramukhi comes, there are usually table and sarangi being played because she is shown as a dancer. Blown air instruments: sushir instruments, harmonium- was not made in india. It was brought to india by french missionary; after the independence, india wanted to remove any foreign goods and names. Hence, they removed many monuments and changed many names, as well as removed the. However, it was too hard to get rid of this instrument because it had became an integral part of indian music: bansuri- hari prasad chaurasia, folk flute, pungi, shennai.
