Preparing injections from an ampule: ampules always contain single doses so never reuse them. Tap the head to move all liquid downwards then snap the neck by pushing away from you. Medication can be aspirated with the ampule inverted or on a flat surface. From a vial: vials can be single or multi-dose. To use remove cap, cleanse rubber stopper with an alcohol swab, add an equal amount of air to the amount you will draw up, then draw up the appropriate amount of liquid. If it"s a multi-use vial label with the opening date. Reconstitution: some vaccines need to be reconstituted before use. Remove an equivalent amount of air then add the dilutent to the vial using a syringe/needle. If multi-dose add the date/time and amount of diluent added. Mixing medications: some medications can be mixed (always check). Inject ait into both vials, withdraw one medication, then the other being very careful to not contaminate the second medication.
