NATS 1570 Lecture 13: Lecture 13
Document Summary
Lecture 13: further out in the solar system. The outer solar system is very much still unknown territory, major discoveries of objects are still being make. Other than the voyager ii flyby, none of these objects have ever been studied close up. The new horizons mission will hopefully allow us to study some elements of this part of our solar system. Rotates on its side axial tilt of around 90 degrees. Greenish colour comes from presence of methane. Solid core with thick layer of water/ice making up large part of interior. One of the windiest places in the solar system. Great dark spot observed by voyager during flyby. White, cirrus-like clouds above the main cloud deck. Both these giant planets also have multiple moons, but with these planets not being as large, tidal heating may not be a significant source of energy (though distance plays a big part in this as well)
