NATS 1575 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Forensic Science, Jigsaw Puzzle, Petroleum Product
Document Summary
It would be impossible to list all the objects that could conceivably be of importance to a crime. If you have too much evidence it will impose you in the investigation. Although you cannot rely on a list of categories, it is useful to discuss some of the most common types of physical evidence. The purpose of recognizing physical evidence is so that it can be collected and analyzed. Ie: in the crime scene you have bullet residue, blood and glass but you have to decide what is the most important and what piece of evidence is stronger. So if the blood matches the suspect then it is the most important piece of evidence. It is difficult to ascertain the weight a given piece of evidence will have in a case as ultimately the weight will be decided by the jury. Two types of evidence: macroscopic and microscopic evidence. Blood, semen, saliva: body fluids, good sources of dna.
