To the sources of health = upstream from disease (prevention) opposed to downstream (heal) Once upon a time: health - the public health pendulum. 1800"s the sanitary idea (environmental protection) factories burned coal causing smog. 1848: public health act of parliament (poor urban conditions appeared disease) 1851: dr john snow hand pumped handle removed and no more sickness. 1875: social science (absence of safe water/food created the conditions under which epidemics could thrive. solution: housing standards ad hygiene regulations) 1881: louis pasteur (immunization) the french biologist saves boy with vaccine dying from rabies. 1928: penicillin (antibiotic) he found mould in a pert dish which produces penicillin. From then on, penicillin and other antibiotic drugs are believed to cure all bacterial diseased and treat all ills.
