NATS 1610 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Amylase, Kupffer Cell, Ileum
Document Summary
There are two main layers in the skin: the epidermis, and the dermis. There is also a third layer which is the subcutaneous layer. It is sometimes referred to as the hypodermis. The accessory organs within skin are the nails, hair and glands epidermis is strati ed squamous keratinized tissue, dermis is connective tissue, and the subcutaneous is adipose tissue. Blood vessels are only found in the dermis. They don"t go into the epidermis because they are too tightly packed together. All of the glands that are associated with skin, all have epidermis origins, meaning that the epidermis made them at some point during embryonic development. Keratinocyte cells start off at the bottom of the epidermis at the stratum basale, and by the time they get to the stratum corneum, which is the top layer of epidermis, they are dead squamous keratinized cells.
