Document Summary

The integumentary system is basically the skin and every accessory organ that goes with it: the skin is the cutaneous membrane, and the accessory organs are the sweat glands, oil glands, the hair, and the nails. The second layer is the dermis, and its where most work gets done. the third layer is called the hypodermic, and is made mostly of fat (from part 1 video) Skin functions: protects from mechanical, chemical, and bacterial damage, also protects from thermal or heat damage, and ultraviolet radiation. It also protects from desiccation (dehydration or drying out). Finally skin helps with the regulation of heat, the creation of vitamin d, and getting rid of urea and uric acid which are byproducts from the breakdown of proteins. Structure of skin (two layers that are on top of the adipose subcutaneous layer) Epidermis: is the most outer layer, and is thin.
