Document Summary

In female, the fat cells in the breast have receptors for estrogen, muscle cells do not have very many receptors for estrogen. Receptors are produced on basis of genetic program and through process of differentiation. If a (cid:272)ell la(cid:272)ks a re(cid:272)eptor for parti(cid:272)ular hor(cid:373)o(cid:374)es it (cid:272)a(cid:374)(cid:374)ot respo(cid:374)d to that hor(cid:373)o(cid:374)e, it"s as though the hor(cid:373)o(cid:374)e is(cid:374)"t there. No amount of supplementing the hormone is going to help so in order to have hormonal function you have to have the hormone and the receptors on the appropriate cells. Hormones are peptide/protein based or steroid/lipid in nature: gen or one are steroids, receptors are proteins; proteins have specific shapes, re(cid:272)eptor for estroge(cid:374) (cid:272)a(cid:374)"t respond to testosterone. Hormones are generally controlled by a system of negative feedback; a decrease in the level of hormone or the effect of the hormone will stimulate increased production and release. All except one hormone estrogen works with negative feedback.
