Document Summary
Observing the micro-universe at the atomic level (pages 14-26) We use audio, visual, smell, tactile sensors. Although ou(cid:396) (cid:448)isio(cid:374) is (cid:374)ot as st(cid:396)o(cid:374)g as a(cid:374) eagle"s this is ou(cid:396) (cid:271)est (cid:449)a(cid:455) to o(cid:271)se(cid:396)(cid:448)e o(cid:271)je(cid:272)ts. Our eyes are adjusted to perceive visible light. For other types of light we utilize tools. Light is a form of electromagnetic radiation, which is an electric and magnetic disturbance that travels through space at the speed of 300,000 km/sec. Other types of electromagnetic radiation (in the order of increased energy): radio, microwaves, infrared(ir), visible, ultraviolet(uv), x and gamma. Wavelength = the distance between two successive wave crests. Frequency = the number of wave crests that pass in front of us in a second. Energy = directly proportional with frequency and inverse proportional to wavelength. Amplitude = the height of the wave. Optics is the branch of physics which deals with the study of light propagation.
