Joy warns us about a potential threat from technology in the future. Dryer explains how our preconceptions shape our use of technology. Chapman suggests a new way to change technology for the better. Joy is concerned that by improving computers and medicine, using nanotechnology, robotics and genetic engineering, we may one day either merge with machines or be ruled by machines, so our work today could be contributing to our enslavement tomorrow. This is his main argument, he is looking far forward to see what the consequences of our continued technological development will be. Kurzweil"s book refers to a statement by the unabomber, ted kaczynski, who mailed bombs to prominent technologists to hinder the progress of technology.
