The printing press and the spread of technical information. Eisenstein: print played large role in the transmission of technical materials. Print helped opened up the closed and secretive would of medieval crafts knowledge by providing new incentives for people to publish their findings: strengths. Imitation of god"s work increased value of technology over time. Demand to know more about technology forced engineers etc; to come up with information to explain. Criticized for giving too much credit to print before it was invented. Did not create opening up the medieval world. Changing attitudes towards nature and technology during the early modern period: nature as a living organism. Looking at mother nature in two contrasting detail, something to be respected and feared. Central to this idea: nature(earth) is compared to a nurturing mother. Francis bacon and ideas about science and technology. Wants to change the way people do science and technology.
