Imperialism was essentially a political philosophy which advocated expanding a country"s empire by extending political and economic control over other territories. Colonization involved countries (especially european ones during this time), establishing colonies all over the world as a way of expanding their political empire. With colonization, the home country would establish social, economic, political and military control over another country, usually because of technological superiority. Canada, of course, started off as a colony of britain. Many colonies were established during this time in places like north and south america, asia, and africa: science, technology and justifications for colonization, the civilizing mission. Based on paternalistic notion that it is the european"s duty to better the situation of the native who was not as civilized . Idea was to bring peace and order to areas where there are wars, constant conflicts.
