He concluded that colours with appear dis-similar as possible. Each colour pushes its neighbour in the direction of its compliment. He developed a colour hemisphere -> 72 segment colour wheel, in the radial directions of tints and then in the polar direction there were shades. This was confusing but he recognized the importance of good colour organization. Colour hemisphere was a visualization of colour order, without having to render everything in detail. Published theory of vision in 1859.
