Development of resistance in populations resistance by bacteria is acquired in 2 ways: new mutations of chromosomal genes (cid:1452) slow, multiple steps, gene transfer (cid:1452) acquisition of r plasmids via transformation, transduction & conjugation (cid:1452) fast, 1 step.
