PHYS 1510 Lecture 18: day 18
Document Summary
Measure of how diffciutl ti is to bring soemthing to a srop. Linear mometum: (p) with vecotr arrow on top - of a n object that has a mass m with a certian velcotiy v is the product of its mass and velcoity. Momentum has units of kgm/s which can be alsow ritten as n"s. Note the momentum is a vector quantity (having both magnitude and direction) Say you have a 1d collision in the x direction: Contact time is important because it impacts change in momentum for a given applied force. Could be 8 to the power of x. Momentum of a person running down a hill. m=80 kg, v= 6 m/s. We will find the cincept of momentum is very fundamental, and like energy, momentum follows a conservation. Lqw of cosnervation of momentum; if the resultant force acting on a ssytem is zero, the momentum of the isolated ssytem is conserved.
