Document Summary
Thomas hobbes leviathan chap 1-6, 8, 10, 13-15 notes. The thought of man is a representation or appearance of a quality, or other accident of a body without us, which is commonly called an object, object is body. Cause of sense is the external body, then goes on about how senses work, organs to the brain, etc. Senses such as eyes for seeing, mouth for tasting, and things like hot and cold for feeling. Sense are nothing more than motions pressing our organs and cause sense, but as humans we fancy the appearance, even obsess over them. The thing we see and the appearance of something are not the same, the thing just being the thing, the appearance being more a social construct, a thing is only the thing we view it as. The object is one thing, the image or fancy is another, although we can fancy the object. Men measures all things, whether it objects or other men.
