Liberalism through industrialization and urbanization will give shape to social forces who oppose liberalism. Liberalism will dominate the realm of ideas and the material world and will change the social landscape of western europe in 19th century. Aristocrats, nobles - social forces behind conservative thought, were left behind by liberalism. Two distinct anti-liberal ideologies: conservatism and socialism - will question the hegemonic hold of liberalism and eventually seek to replace it as the dominant ideology of the western world. Liberalism"s oldest and perhaps most lasting adversary is conservatism. Recent term - appears for rst time in 1818. French aristocrat coined the term - cheateaubriand. Created in the wake of french revolution. Idea behind conservatism, however, is not a new idea. Wanting to remain the same, or go back to how things were before. Conservatism position appears almost naturally in political realm.
