The state is a central concept in the study and practice of politics. It doesn"t really matter who the victim is. It is, in reality, a power struggle between two sides: the difference between a nation and a state: a nation is a tightly-knit group of people who share customs and beliefs but lack the sovereignty of a state. A state (or country) is a self- governing political entity with borders instated. The chief has to have the power to compel others (w/ military force): state: a highly structured, more organized, more class-divided social order. Change is usually slow and gradual: anthony giddens, modernity is a shorthand term for modern society, or industrial civilization.
