Pols 1000 introduction to politics lecture week 11. They will act as a limit to our political imaginary: we spontaneously feel we have enough choice to make our decisions. Is a limitation to political possibilities: political parties will explicitly introduce ideologies, the idea that ideologies is important and say something about how we are will arrive via political parties. The social forces in play will be stable: all this will change in the rise of the merchant class; the bourgeoise, the merchant class will bring a new outlook to the world, e. g. The need for things to be practical, abstract. The need to obtain concrete results for any actions: the term ideology will partake in this moment of social change. November 21, 2018: these enlightenment philosophers will seek to distinguish themselves from traditional philosophy. They will reject the other worldly nature of medieval philosophy: they will reject in particular the emphasis that is put on the city of god.
