International division of labour changed from the colonial era (where colonies provided raw materials to imperial colonies) Under the development project, there was a shift to international division of labour in which manufacturing and national development was intertwined. Ideal national development was the notion that all economies tried to meet the standards or image of us. Modernization theory (the notion that the third world"s whole economy and society was "backwards") Hierarchy of development in which the third world should be brought up to the standards of us development. The second world (the soviet bloc) also subscribed to the notion of modernization, industrialization through alternative ways. Through a command economy in a five year plan (where targets o would be created for production level in key sectors) Economic development involved systematically shifting people from other countries. Capital agriculture would replace peasant agriculture and then expanded productivity.
