The greek polei go to war with the persians. The persian wars helped shaped the identity of the greeks. Classical period: where the war takes place. Origins of war: the persians traced it to a long history of problems with the greeks. The conflict centered around the abduction of women. The stores took place in the midst of time, its difficult to distinguish if the stories are true. The conflict seemed to be quite different than the other conflicts, herodotus had to make sure it had to be recorded. The persian empire was the strongest at the time and the city state"s were new at the time. The persian was the persian empire against the greek polei, a war for greek freedom against persian slavery. The greeks had celebrated the defeat greatly whereas the persians just saw it as a minor conflict in their big empire.
