Increasingly india is home to a middle class. Every month, 1 million people join the labour force. Difficult to sustain from an economic point of view. Economic growth in india tends to be up and down. The british were responsible for the conflict between the muslims and hindus. Fostered regionalism, localism, cast system, language, race. British colonial rule was responsible for many issues in indian politics. India was ruled by gb for more than 100 years. Its secular, important because it shows how the country tried to reconcile the differences with a neutral state. It has protections from minority rights, it is pluralistic in its democratic structures. The indian constitution provides civil rights for citizens of any group. The constitution affirms that all groups must be treated equally. Federal system, in each of the states there is a governor who has a ceremonial role, and a minister who acts like a pm.
