Canadian wealth relies heavily on other countries. Many canadians had fear about nafta, but ultimately canadians have put aside their anxieties and embraced economic globalization. Being america"s neighbour = a blessing and a curse. Proximity + social similarities = easy to do business and why canada"s exports remain tightly focused on the us. Curse = canada is too dependent on the single market, making itself vulnerable to heavy pressure if the us government wanted to exercise political leverage over canada. Canada needs to diversify its economic connections. Canada will always have strong ties to the us, but ties to china are developing. Canada has done well in combat responsibilities over the past ten years. Canada has had to do recruitment programs + re-energize the military. Lots of foreign penetration in the canadian market. Protective legislations to protect the french language. Traditional definition: control over one"s domestic affairs/territory.
