For r. we don"t have these grand tortious passions and fears that hobbes thought people would have in state of nature. 2 amour-de-soi and pitie amour-de-soi translates as self love; instinct for self preservation. This is modified by pitie translates as pity which is not the best translation. Idea that you feel this immediate empathy or feelings of another.
