Perfectibility: emergence of reason, moral decline (from amour-de-soi amour-prope, reason and ego, natural self love. Amour-propre: source of evils and honor , social progress/corruption, nascent society. Interdependence but equality: private property and violence. Physically animal who is not so much different from other animals in terms of size, strength etc. relevant because for r. this pre human animal would have lived a comfortable life bc. They would not be engaged in this horrible struggle for resistance. Psychological characteristics are very important this pre human individual would have characteristics that motivated their behavior. For r. we don"t have these grand tortious passions and fears that hobbes thought people would have in state of nature. 2 amour-de-soi and pitie amour-de-soi translates as self love; instinct for self preservation. This is modified by pitie translates as pity which is not the best translation. Idea that you feel this immediate empathy or feelings of another.
