Sovereignty means to be free from interference from other states. Athenians: there can be no equality between the materially strong and the materially weak. The strong do what they will and the weak do what they must. Melian dialogue discussion between athens and melos as well as the destruction of melos. Political science fundamentally concerned with questions of power. Power is instrumental power is used as a tool: something that makes others bend to your will. There is a strong international stance of states having rights which allows for small countries to survive: the right to exist, non-harm, no interference is the melian, liberal stance, states should run their own affairs. International politics made of stories and that facts never speak for themselves. Social truths the power of ideas the power to make someone believe something. Social power = ideational power = the power of ideas. Institutional power power of social norms (norms of behavior)
