Psyc1010 h: sensation & perception: sensation - the process whereby our sensory organs gather information from the outside world, perception - the process whereby the brain organizes and interprets these sensations so that they have meaning. This picture can be interpreted in two ways: The brain can either perceive the image as a young girl or old woman. If you have 120, 2 are needed to detect difference. Similarity - tend to group items that are similar. Proximity - tend to group items that are close together. Closure tend to perceive objects as a whole.
