Moghaddam"s concerns: duration of ltp, potentiation doesn"t last for very long. Chapter 6: learning and behaviourism: behaviourists were focused on behaviour alone because it was objective and can be observed whereas the mind is not like that, can see how the environment influences behaviour. Basic tenets natural science: associationism, some philosophers had the idea that when the child is born, it"s like they are a blank slate (tabula rasa, could arrange the environment to shape the child"s behaviour. S-r learning: an unconditioned stimulus is paired with an unconditioned response (e. g. food + salivation) Looked at imprinting in animals: highlighted the importance of biology. Social learning theory: albert bandura, sometimes we can learn by observation, modelling by seeing a model, a child can learn by copying actions. Conceptions of intelligence: adaptation of the species. Intelligence is a construct that has not always existed. It wasn"t relevant centuries ago: human beings are able to adapt to their environment this is intelligence.
