Sampling biases (e. g. hite report: not representing the whole population. (r) describes the strength of the relationship between 2 variables. Positive correlations high scores correlated with high, low correlated with low. Negative correlations high scores with low scores, low with high. A third (hidden) variable can account for the relationship between two variables. The magnitude of a correlation coefficient indicates the strength of the relationship between two variables. The sign (plus or minus) indicates whether the correlation is positive or negative.
