When you"re sleeping, your id is not being repressed because you"re relaxed. Freud believed that id impulses are not being. Nightmares occur when the ego loses control and the id surfaces. Universal symbols: same meaning across dreams and individuals. Note: he believed that these dreamwork defences are not working.
