Etiology refers to the apparent causation and developmental history of an illness. A prognosis is a forecast about the probable cause of an illness. Thomas szasz points out that to make diagnoses clinicians should rely on the following criteria. Dsm is the official psych diagnostic classification system. This system asks for information about patients on five axes, or dimensions. Dsm-iv: axis 1 clinical syndromes, axis 2 personality disorders or mental retardation, axis 3 general medical conditions, axis 4 psychosocial and environmental problems, axis 5 global assessment of functioning (gaf) scale. Epidemiology- the study of the distribution of mental or physical disorders in a population. Anxiety disorders are a class of disorders marked by feelings of excessive apprehension and anxiety.
