Document Summary
Possibly the most important: we live in and through our memory. Your self-concept is a string of memories that your brain builds into a narrative: when memory fades, are you the same person?, our future is constrained by our past. When we plan for the future, what we plan is constrained by our past memories and knowledge. Important message: every single memory anybody has is a false memory. Lives completely in the moment: herpes simplex virus got into his brain and damaged his hippocampus and surrounding structures important to memory formation and storage, structures of memory, sensory memory. Large capacity: sensory input -> sensory memory -> attention -> stm -> storage -> ltm, short-term memory (stm, system that holds information for less than 20 seconds. They were allowed to view the matrix for a certain period of time: after this time was up, participants were asked to recall the information in the order that it was presented.
