Types of stress: frustration- a goal is blocked, conflict, pressure- expectations or demands to behave in a certain way, catastrophes, life changes- any changes in ones living circumstances that requires readjustment. Frequent and minor hassles- are good predictors of immediate day-to-day emotional and physical health. Major life events- produce changes in health one or two years after the event. Psychosomatic disorders (psychophysiological illness)- physical disorders with a real physiological basis that are caused by psychological factors such as stress, medical intervention is in order. Type d personality- also linked with heart disease; they don"t have their negative emotions because they fear social rejection. Why is type a associated with heart disease: drastic fluctuations in physiological reactivity, bring on more stress for themselves, little social support, poor health habits. Stress weakened immune system (destroys antigens relies heavy on lymphocytes (white blood cells) to destroy these antigens) illness. Psychoneuroimmunology- how the mind and body interact with each other.
