Develops before women even know they"re pregnant with a baby. Neural plate becomes the neural tube, which becomes the brain and spinal cord. They have a working brain and spinal cord before anything. We see a huge explosion at 10 weeks post-conception. Only happens after the development of the neural tube. You have all the neurons you"ll have in your life by 28 weeks. About 250,000 neurons developing every minute at only halfway through the average pregnancy. Neurons migrate to their destinations, where they grow and differentiate. Most intense period of growth and differentiation just after an infant is born. How much sleep might be related to how much information they are consolidating. Born with more grey matter than white matter.
