Psych 2110 lecture #1 - developmental psychology: an introduction. It is the scientific study of how & why human beings develop across the lifespan. It is not just children or infants but also adolescence & adults. It is the development of the brain & body. Physical genes + environment, potential discontinuity. Cognitive sensory environment & perception also, how we remember things & why to see how sometime we are not able to remember certain things. Social attachment theories : it focuses on parent & significant caregivers. There is a debate whether development is primarily influenced by nature vs. nurture but generally, both do provide some sort of development. Nature: the coding of genes in each cell in us humans determine the different traits that we have, more dominantly on the physical attributes like eye color, hair color, ear size, height, and other traits.
