PSYC 2120 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Naturalistic Fallacy, Genetic Recombination, Dna Replication
Document Summary
Evolution & culture influences on social life are 2 main perspectives in this study. Evolution the concept that different species are descended from common ancestors but have evolved over time, acquiring different genetic characteristics as a function of different environmental demands. Natural selection the process by which certain attributes are more successful in a particular environment and therefor become more represented in future generations. Sexual reproduction causes variability (the mechanism of evolution), there are 2 primary sources of variability: mutation: random mistakes in dna replication that caused variations. Most were maladaptive, leading to an almost immediate end to the organism"s life. Key factor in evolution as organism vying for same food and resources as well as mating. Not strongest or most aggressive but whatever trait skills needed to best adapt to changing environment. Process of evolution strongly depended on changes in environment and organism characterristics to adapt.
