PSYC 2120 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Egotism, Social Comparison Theory, Collectivism
Document Summary
Is the study of how we infer the causes of other peoples behavior. Internal atribuion (disposiion) a person"s behavior was caused by something internal, such as his/her aitudes, character, or personality. External atribuion (situaion) - a person"s behavior was caused by something external, such as the situaion; assume that most other people in that same situaion would behave similarly. A person behavior is a joint funcion of the situaion the person is in and the person"s unique predisposiions of the act. To know whether a person has a disposiion to behave in a certain way we need to observe the behavior and subtract out the efect of the situaion. The behavior is no diagnosic it tells us nothing about the person"s unique disposiion and enduring tendencies to behave in a certain way. Fundamental atribuion error (also known as correspondence bias) I. e, we are not very good at following the discouning principle.
