Carl rogers formed his client centred therapy because of his issues with freud"s model. Allowed for revisions in psychology, ideas to grow. He didn"t like structural environment because it sets up a power dynamic. The only thing that can be met is the narcissism needs of thee therapist. Didn"t like that clients came in 3-4 times per week. There must be a more efficient way to help- went to formulate behavior theories. All behaviors caused by preceding mental event. Between overt (observable) vs covert (unobservable) behaviors are determined by a preceding psychological event. Mental events have casual power in and of themselves, they are not parts of a chain reactions. Applies to normal (forgetting phone number) and abnormal. Unconscious material most potent cause/influence of behavior. Certain mental abilities are more accessible to us. Hysteria: bottling and somatic symptoms ie. blindness, twitching, loosing swallowing reflex. Doctors believed they were faking it, malingering symptoms.
