Document Summary

Freud psychoanalysis is constructed in a way that a person is lying on a comfortable couch and the psychologist sits behind, carl rogers said that this technique creates power imbalance between patient and psychologist. Also, psychoanalysis was meeting 5-6 times a week for several years, he said there must be a better and more efficient way. Psychic determinism is the idea that all behaviour is a distinction between overt (directly observable, child a hits child b) behaviour and covert behaviours ( those behaviours that cannot be observed directly, thoughts, fantasies). All of those behaviours are determined by psychological event. This does not conflict with the idea that behaviours have neurological or biological basis. Psychological events have a causal effect in themselves. they not part of a chain reaction they have causal power in themselves. Even if we cant think of a reason behind our behaviour theres always a psychological preceding behind it as believed by freud.
