First to speak about the pitfalls of psychoanalysissaid that it could actually hurt people as opposed to helping to make them better. Psychoanalysis sets up a power imbalance between the patient and psychologis o the patient becomes passive. Rogers went columbia studied clinical psychology, worked mainly with delinquent and disadvantaged children. Wrote the novel clinical treatment of the problem child but is most famous for client centered therapy novel. Rogers psychology starts and ends with the subjective experience of the individual. We have to pay attention to people"s subjective experiences. For rogers, our subjective personal experience(conscious experiences) serves as the basis for everything that we do: how we construe the world as an individual. Subjective experience is everything that"s occurring in the organism at a particular moment: phenomenal field, conscious experience, unconscious experiences/processes. Carl rogers accepted freudian idea of behaviourism but he did not align himself with freuds idea that all behaviour is unconscious.
