Document Summary

Step 2: light is reflected and transformed. Principle of transformation: the stimulus and perception of stimulus are not the same (due to electromagnetic energy and neural firing) Visual receptors responds to visual pigment which reacts to light (changing it to nerve impulses - transduction) Signals coming from receptors are transmitted to 1000s of neurons to different areas of the cortex (occipital, parietal, frontal, temporal) Occurs when object is placed in a category, giving it meaning. Occurs when perceiver initiates motor activity in response to the stimulus. Knowledge: any info a perceiver brings to the situation (step 5 and 6) Based on incoming stimuli from the environment. Processing based on the perceivers previous knowledge. Psychophysics: attempts to measure the relationship between physical stimulus and our perception of that stimulus. Gustav fechner developed evaluation of sensory thresholds. Method of adjustment:observer adjusts the stimulus intensity until it is detectable (does this several times) - method is bias.
