Supposed to be about what is truth (kind of circular) Defines what counts as science/what science is/ academics, research, psychology, etc. Dtms theoretical framework: which problems are relevant, hypotheses considered/formed, questions considered/asked, acceptable approaches & methods, acceptable answers. Also what"s not science, what does not fit into the framework {philosophy before. What problems, hypotheses, questions, methods are not considered; what answers are. If no one asks the question, no one looks for the answer. : must question them, otherwise stagnates scientific truth = consensus (truth is what everyone agrees is true) need for critical examination. Paradigm shift mvmt from 1 place to another. New paradigm; way of academic thinking & seeing, new theories, questions, methods. > new answers & insights (which > new questions, cycle) Paradigm: in 1950s & 60s, most primatologists were men & much of their rsrch focused on male primates b/c they focused what grabbed their attn. which is the dominant adult male (observation bias)
