Psychological factors such as stress, worry and unconscious needs can contribute to bodily illness. Factitious disorder: a person induces physical symptoms for assuming the role of a sick person. People go to extremes to create appearance of illness. Common among those who received extensive treatment for a medical problem as a child, carry a grudge against the medical profession or worked as a nurse etc. Causes are not clear but factors such as depression, unsupportive parents during childhood and need for social support are contributing factors. Conversion disorder and somatic symptom disorder: when a bodily ailment has an excessive impact on the patient without any medical cause.
