Many people develop a tolerance: needing larger doses of the substance to produce desired effect. Alcohol: contains ethyl alcohol which is absorbed into the blood and gets carried to cns where it slows functioning down by binding to neurons. It binds to neurons called gaba which carries inhibitory message to stop firing; alcohol helps gaba shut down neurons.
