Neuroticism = tendency to be high in anxiety, depression. Or perhaps more attentive to what"s happening with their bodies. Overall: respond to symptoms very quickly: mental health/ mood. Depressed = more likely to talk about illness in the passt. Anxiety= more likely to talk about current symptoms. Good mood = see one self in good health, less likely to recognize symptoms: cultural. Japanese women = report fewer symptoms related to menopause. One reason = jp women are healthier (so maybe less symptoms: situational factors. Bored/disengaged = if you are bored more likely to recognize symptoms: stress. If stressed tend to pay more attention to physiological response to stress. More likely to think of these responses in relation to illness. Stress may make symptoms more pronounced (i. e. flare ups in ibd) *it is a psychological process: prior experience. If we had prior experience = interpret it as less severe: expectations.
