Ontario drug benefits: how are drugs considered: before drug is authorized for sale in canada, drug manufacture must submit scientific evidence on product safety, efficacy and quality to health. How are drugs reviewed in canada: drugs accessed by health canada to assess safety, quality, efficacy, quality, health canada"s health product and food branch (hpfb) regulated and evaluated safety, efficacy & quality of therapeutic & diagnostic products available. How are drugs developed: research begins w/scientists developing various chemicals or biological substances, once substance isolated, its admin to tissue cultures or small animals to see changes. These changes can be biochemical, physiological or behavioral: then animal & lab tests to conduct studies on effects on organs, immune system , reproductive system. Determine what dosage substance should be given to achieve a particular effect. If not toxic effect, then hpfb authorizes to conduct clinical trial in canada.
