Psychology of women - introduction - chapter one. Gender inequality (women in the workforce, still unequal) Disproportionate distribution of women having eating disorders. Comparison of the gender (emotion, work, cognitive, roles in society) Fundamental attribute error = attribute their behaviour to something about them, instead of their circumstances. Gender = genders identified in the society. A learned understanding of what it is. Broader term: psychological characteristics, social categories created by human culture in different culture, there are different expectations of what it is to be female/male. Often used interchangeably in the past: no clean absolute separation is possible. Sex = a person"s biological maleness or femaleness. Gender = non-physiological aspects of being female/male -- the cultural expectations for femininity and masculinity. Emphasizes how similar women and men are. We build out version of reality based on: what we have experienced before, whom we interact with, what we believe. Each of us have our own idea of reality.
