PSYC 3480 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Oedipus Complex, Electra Complex, Gender Studies
Document Summary
Internal validity - the measures you use are addressing the issue you are studying. External validity - being able to generalize findings from your study onto a population. Reliability - you should be able to get the same findings if you were to repeat the study - highly correlated to original study. Women go into menopause - body has stopped sending hormones that trigger menstruation. Some women get bad side effects of menopause - hot flashes, sweating etc. Hrt - hormone replacement therapy - a way to reintroduce the hormone to prevent the side effects - experimental group had better hearts after the end of the study and reduced side effects. Doing the study again found that there indeed was no actual improvement in heart condition. Random selection - each person has equal chance of being or not being in the study - randomly pick the people that will be in the study.
