PSYC 3480 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Sex Education, Human Sexual Response Cycle, Emergency Contraception
Document Summary
Current research looks at men"s sexual experiences as normative, a research will say penis for men"s part and refer to women"s part as something the penis goes into. Most textbooks focus sexuality from a male perspective. From a social constuctionist approach: the culture would say women are not supposed to be highly enthusiastic about sexual experiences. Whereas culture may say that women are free to voice their sexuality. Clitoris is the most important external organ in females. Sexual response is presented in an orderly sequence of events but doesn"t account for variety of sexual experiences. Excitement phase: erotic thoughts can produce sexual arousal, blood rushes to genital area, causes vasocongestion, swelling caused by accumulation of blood. Plateau phase: clitoris shortens and draws back under clitoral hood. Orgasmic phase: the uterus and other part of the vagina contract strongly, at intervals roughly a second apart.
